The Vienna of today, with the tunes of Schubert, Bach and Beethoven, is the backdrop for Michael Haneke's new film exploring the sado-masochistic relationship between a student and his piano professor. He (Beno"t Magimel) is a reckless seducer; she (Isabelle Huppert) is a reclusive woman in a neurotic, exclusive relationship with her mother. Tragic, terrible and funny at the same time, "La Pianiste" is a strange journey - both brutal and savage - that probes the very depths of their relationship.
