The movie has an original script based on a true story.

Despite some creativity and good special effects, it turned out to be a poor handling of a serious and delicate subject!

Steve Carell is okay in the lead role, but nothing more.

The numerous scenes with dolls quickly become tiring as they lack emotional depth. Even the real women in the movie seem almost as fake as the plastic dolls.

"Welcome to Marwen" doesn't do justice to its main character. It's even more disappointing knowing the film was directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future...)

The movie runs a little under 2 hours, but it felt much longer. In short, it's a film that is both dull and difficult to watch.

The film is very well made, but I really didn't like the story... it's a shame. I rate it 4/10.

The movie is very well made and the acting is good, but I found the story a bit too sappy and sentimental for my taste. Half of the movie uses 3D animation, which is a unique and creative way to present the plot. However, by the end I felt like this wasn't really a movie for adults, despite the very serious subject matter.

An original movie with some slow parts, but the special effects are truly excellent.

It was just okay. I wouldn't have missed much if I hadn't seen it.

I love true life movies and this was really moving.

I thoroughly enjoyed this highly original and unique film, which movingly tackles the theme of resilience without ever becoming melodramatic.
It's based on a true story, and is very interesting and beautifully shot, with stunning visuals throughout.

I watched this with my hubby and he was not looking forward to seeing it but we both loved this well told story.

Just like The Park of Wonders, this is an Oscar-worthy film, even though it was directed by the same person who made Back to the Future. However, the movie is quite dull, with not much happening. The story itself is interesting, but the rest falls flat. It's probably best watched at home. The runtime is 1 hour and 56 minutes, but it feels like it drags on for 6 hours. I rate it 7.2 out of 10. It's a shame, considering it's from the director of Back to the Future. :0 (.

    Disappointing and unnecessarily long.

I'm a huge fan of Zemeckis, but I still find this movie hard to enjoy. The main character is overbearing, as is the story and its development. It's odd when you consider that Zemeckis also created the movie Forrest Gump.

Interesting real-life story, not a fan of how female characters were objectified and the whole thing was justified by mental illness / damage.

A great film to enjoy at home! It has wonderful values and provides insight into what people with post-traumatic syndromes might go through.

I heard a lot of negative reviews about this one and I just about didn’t take the time to watch it... I am very happy I did decide to see it. Well worth the time and money. It’s so good I ended up watching it twice! Steve did amazing acting in this movie and you can feel the emotion he put into this movie. Very good.

It does a good job of showing how Marwen overcame the trauma he faced due to being different... Hooray for the world of imagination!

    branwen.willow@  22.4.2019 age: 50+ 15 reviews

Way too much focus on the fantasy world, which in most cases adds much mystery, suspense, and intrigue to many films. Unfortunately, concerning Marwen this is not the case. I found that Steve Carell, of who I am a huge fan, way way over-acted throughout the entire film.

Based on a true story as many are unaware of. It was done beautifully. A good one to see.

It's hard to relate to the main character, which makes the movie less appealing. That's a shame, because the visuals offered something fresh and engaging.

I really enjoyed the story and how it linked psychology with the miniature characters. Steve Carell is fantastic in his role as the soldier.

This was a great movie. Steve Carrel was awesome in this role. I have only seen him before in comedy drama and it was great to see him in a different genre.

I was disappointed here. I expected more from Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future & Forrest Gump) This movie was all over the place. I will never watch this movie again.

Definitely worth seeing - Based on a true story Steve Carell gives an impressive performance of a person working through extreme trauma - it’s a window into how someone can get through it and get to the other side.

This was a great pic! The animation with the dolls and the humour were amazing. Also a great true story of one man's way to deal with trauma and coming through it with the help of friends and an active imagination. SEE IT!

    pengelly.family@  18.1.2019 age: 50+ 8 reviews

This was a movie that I was looking forward to and had so much potential based on the incredible documentary, but ultimately this was a bit of a miss. The cast is incredible and the animation is great, but not enough to make up for disjointed plot and all over the place script that glosses over a lot of the harsher realities. There was a real lack of depth that left me disappointed.

    crjstan@  18.1.2019 age: 18-25 78 reviews

This was an interesting film. I was not sure how I felt about it after I watched it. After much thought I have come to realize that it is one of those movies either you love or hate. I found that the doll portion of the movie was a little too much for me but I also understand that it is his world.

I would say watch it for yourself to see how you feel.

Not an easy movie to watch. You watch a man with PTST struggle through his life, thankfully with his imagination and some good friends.

I was disappointed in this movie. Not what I thought that it would be. Wish they showed more of his life after the accident. His recovery would have been nice to see, the struggles he went too etc... Too much about his dolls I found.
