We Strangers

Rayelle Martin (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) is a commercial cleaner in Gary, Indiana. Known for being mischievous and playful, Rayelle is adept at adapting to her surroundings as a Black woman in her 30s. One day at work, she is approached by Dr. Neeraj Patel, an Indian man who offers her a job as his housekeeper. Rayelle, eager for extra money, readily accepts. Dr. Patel then offers her another opportunity: a second job cleaning his mistress's home. Initially, Rayelle is just an observer in this situation, but she soon grows tired of merely watching. On a whim, she tells a small lie, claiming she can speak to the dead. This lie unexpectedly places Rayelle in a unique position of power, as she navigates her desire to assert her own identity.
