In the wake of his wife's brutal murder by a deranged gunman, Alexis abandons his life, draining his savings and severing ties with his job and friends to wander aimlessly. He becomes engrossed in the chaos of the streets, observing peasant roadblocks and hearing of enraged shopkeepers, while televised executions of rebels unfold. His encounter with Daphne alters his path, leading him to live with her. Under the influence of tranquilizers, Daphne's emotions swing unpredictably, and Alexis' presence influences her to join him on a fatal journey. As weapons and repression surround them, signaling impending disaster, they exhaust their resources.
