1910 Fantasy adventure
10 minutes
In a whimsical land, Dorothy, chased by the mischievous Hank the Mule, stumbles into her cornfield and discovers her family's Scarecrow is alive. After freeing him, a cyclone whisks Dorothy, Scarecrow, Toto, Hank, and Imogene the Cow into a dizzying journey. Landing in Oz, they learn the Wizard has declared himself a fraud to protect his secret. Glinda emerges, transforming Toto into a man in a bulldog suit to guard Dorothy. Joined by the Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion, and Eureka, their adventure darkens when Momba, the Wicked Witch of the West (suggesting Baum's naming of witches as Mombe, Mombo, and Mombu), captures Dorothy with her flying lizards and soldiers. Triumphing over Momba, they reach the Emerald City for the Wizard's farewell celebration.
The earliest surviving film adaption of L. Frank Baum's novel.
