In Wilder's often-overlooked late opus, stage luminary Robert Stephens is Holmes, investigating missing midget acrobats and the mystery of the Loch Ness monster with Colin Blakely's Watson at his side, all while trying to deal with brother Mycroft (Christopher Lee) and bad luck in love. An acerbic, sweetly sad, and very romantic film, with a drumtight script by Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond.
