    In 1862, a British schoolteacher and recent widow (Deborah Kerr) arrives in Siam to educate the royal children, only to clash immediately with their father, the king (Yul Brynner). Her modern Western ways provoke the ruler, yet he gradually develops respect for her defiance and courage in challenging him. Over time, that respect blossoms into profound love.
