The Girl in the White Coat

A bilingual drama about the misfortunes of Élise, a factory worker whose earnings go toward supporting her increasingly dependent father. Whereas previously they had both lived on a farm near Sorel, Élise now finds herself uprooted and incredibly lonely in her dingy little room in a Montreal working-class district. She is alienated from her co-workers, who mock her; her crackpot landlady imposes absurdly strict rules; and her only friend is her budgie D'Artagnan. Then her solitary existence is forever altered when she takes her old white coat in to be repaired. But is the change for better or for worse?
