The Baron of Arizona

Master swindler James Reavis spends years forging documents to claim the entire territory of Arizona. He discovers a young orphan girl, hires a governess to educate her as Spanish aristocracy, and invents deceased parents linking her to a mythical Spanish nobleman. He infiltrates a Spanish monastery for three years to access records of land grants, then joins a gypsy band to alter duplicates in a nobleman's library. With his scheme complete, he marries the now-grown woman and asserts his claim as her husband, the Baron of Arizona.
