The innocent, impoverished Tess Durbeyfield is driven to claim kinship with the wealthy Alec D'Urberville, who is different from how she had imagined. In time, she meets a very different man, Angel Clare, who seems to offer her love and salvation - but Tess must decide if she will reveal her past.
