    1879. When Dr. Julia Winlsow Garth (Greer Garson) arrives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to open a medical practice, Dr. Rourke O'Brien (Dana Andrews) does not welcome the competition and firmly believes that a women should not be doctors. As O'Brien finds himself attracted to Garth, and she openly supports the suffragette movement to bring rights to women only complicate professional rivalry.
