Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves), a daring LAPD SWAT officer, relies on his bold instincts and sharp insight into criminal behavior to navigate dangerous situations, often surviving through a mix of skill and fortune. His greatest challenge emerges when Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper), a cunning bomber and extortionist, seeks revenge after a failed ransom plot. Payne targets Jack directly, rigging a city bus with a bomb set to explode if the vehicle slows below 50 MPH.
