Clio Dulaine (Ingrid Bergman) returns from Paris to her childhood home in New Orleans to seek revenge on the family that ostracized her. She plans to marry a rich man to achieve a respectable social status, but falls for opportunistic Texas gambler Clint Maroon (Gary Cooper) instead. When he leaves New Orleans for the horse-racing season at Saratoga Springs, she follows him there to seek her fortune.
