In a quiet California desert community, a family annually converts their home and yard into a haunted house, opening it to neighbors for a night of frights. What began as a shared endeavor has morphed into the father's (John Williams) consuming obsession, placing strain on the family as they cater to his elaborate visions. As Halloween approaches, they invite a local high school janitor (Chris Olsen) to experience their creation.
