At the turn of the century, second-rate vaudevillians Chester Hooton (Bob Hope) and Duke Johnson (Bing Crosby) sail to Alaska seeking Klondike gold, stealing a map to a secret mine from killers McGurk and Sperry along the way. Posing as the thugs in Skagway, they encounter saloon singer Sal Van Hoyden (Dorothy Lamour), who aims to reclaim her father's map while entangled with scheming Ace Larson and his henchmen. A chaotic chase ensues as the duo, Sal, the killers, and crooks outwit each other to seize the map and locate the mine, all while competing for Sal's affections.
