In 1933 Stuttgart, two young boys from contrasting backgrounds form a friendship, unaware of their differing family origins: one is the son of a prosperous Jewish doctor, and the other the son of a German aristocrat. As the summer passes and Hitler rises to power, the socio-political climate shifts dramatically, marked by a surge in anti-Semitism. The core of the film explores this turbulent period, before transitioning to the present day, where the Jewish man returns to his childhood home, searching for his old friend and encountering unexpected developments.
