Info
Gavino is a Sardinian shepherd who lived in solitude until the age of 20, alone with his flock in the mountains, separated from his family and school, excluded from the village community. Illiterate, he understands that he will remain under his father's domination until he acquires the means to communicate with others (knowledge of Italian, reading, writing). One year, due to bad weather conditions, the family's entire olive grove is destroyed. The father then decides to sell everything and send Gavino to the army. This will be his opportunity to acquire the basic knowledge he so desperately needs. He first learns Italian, then Latin and Greek. On his own, he earns a degree in linguistics and secures a teaching position on the mainland. He will return to his native village to write the book of his life.
