Vancouver filmmaker Nathaniel Geary's acclaimed first feature begins as Randy (Simon Baker), a teenager living in a foster home on a reserve in Prince Rupert, arrives in Vancouver looking for his older sister, Angel (Alex Rice). Angel had run away from home to the city five years previous, and Randy finds her now at the dingy Pennsylvania Hotel in Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside, where she survives as best she can, supporting her heroin habit by working as a prostitute. Angel tries to convince Randy to return home, but he is soon seduced by the temptations of the streets. As Randy succumbs to hard drugs, and falls for Angel's best friend Stacey (Katherine Isabelle), his decline becomes the catalyst for Angel to re-examine her own troubled life
