    During the Sputnik-inspired space frenzy of the late 50's, 4 teenage friends in a small Southern mining community prepare to build their own rocket ship. The film centers on young Homer Hickam (Gyllenhaal) who embarks on the project partly in an attempt to win his father's (Cooper) approval.
