In the heyday of beauty pageants, millions of girls and women aspired to walk the podium to showcase their elegance and style. As women's cookie-cutter bodies and plastic smiles are put on display, Women's Liberation Front activists' Sally Alexander and Jo Robinson formulate a protest against the 1970 Miss World competition. However, with such a widely-regarded and divisive platform comes great opportunity, as the Grenadian contestant Jennifer Hosten blazes a trail to become the first black champion. One prestigious spectacle highlighting prim and proper behavior incidentally gives some women a permission slip to start a revolution.
