Message in a Bottle

Grieving over the death of his wife, a North Carolina sailor (Costner) uses an odd form of therapy. He writes love letters to her, and after finishing bottles of booze, he puts the letter in the bottle, corks it up, and throws it in the Atlantic. A few weeks later, a reporter jogging on vacation in Cape Cod (Wright Penn) finds one of bottles, and searches him out. Eventually, she does find him, and though they do bond, love may not be easy for these two people who carry plenty of emotional baggage.
