Man of Iron

Based on the actual Gdansk Shipyard strikes and the subsequent Solidarity workers' uprising, this film centers around the strike's leader (based upon Lech Walesa, who makes a cameo in the film), and uses actual footage from Solidarity protests. Although vehemently anti-communist, this film slipped through a brief thaw in censorship, and won the 1981 Palme d'Or.
