I can't think of a person who would not cheer on an individual "underdog" let alone a town that seems to be on its last legs. This true story about hydroplane boat racing right from the annals of the early seventies let's us revel in this hard but enjoyable tale with stars who so fit their roles. The film felt really good as I knew/know nothing about such races so it all came as a lovely surprise to me, a heartwarming, family, sports film set right in the middle of rural America. It's almost like a combat between a giant and a child. Who would you root for? The film might be predictable for those in the thick of this sort of thing, but I took it in as a nice bit of nostalgia that managed to get it all right and spot on. Nice stuff.

A perfect recreation of the life of Jim McCormick and his town.
