1918: A French Navy-ship docks on the island of Fenua Poerava in the Polynesian archipelago. On board is Captain Alfred de Morsac. On the island, Morsac befriends a young child named Reia, the prince of the Island. Moeata, Reia's mother, although part French herself does not trust Morsac and sees him as nothing but "a mangy European dog". Soon in open conflict with Commander Lefebvre, Morsac is forced to flee...
