    Paris in the 1950s, in the Menilmontant district. A little boy finds a red balloon caught on a lamppost. The balloon begins to follow the boy everywhere though the streets of Paris, to the astonishment of the entire neighborhood. An envious band of youths his age provoke a turn of events that is both tragic and fantastic.
