Apple Annie (May Robson) lives her life selling fruit on the New York sidewalk, but pretends to her daughter that she is mixing in aristocratic circles, writing letters to her on fancy headed-paper and making up stories about the well-to-do people she claims to know. When her daughter decides to visit Manhattan with her fiancé, a Spanish Count, Annie realise that she must keep up the pretence by posing as a high society lady and calls upon her friend Dave the Dude (Warren William) for help.
