Info
Nicolas, Nicky to his friends, lives in a small, quiet town overlooking the ocean. Son and grandson of fishermen, he is twelve years old and lives alone with his mother and his older sister. A terrible storm snatched his dad a few years earlier. Nicolas is in double mourning: for disappearance of his father and for the disintegration of his grandfather. Unable to bear the death of his son, Jeremiah Boudreau sank into depression and alcohol, burning bridges to family and friends, even while trying, awkwardly, to keep in touch with grandson. Summer vacation has just begun, and for Nicolas, it is the occasion to resume his greatest pleasure: playing baseball with his friends. But a major obstacle greets the boys and girls who assemble at the village baseball field: the town council has decided to convert the field into a municipal dump. War breaks out. With Nicky as their leader, the village kids will resist the mayor's stealthy machinations with ferocity and humour. And, to their surprise, they will receive the ingenious support of Jeremiah Boudreau and his old buddies. That eventful summer, Nicolas will learn the hard lessons of leadership and he will end up reconciling with his grandfather.
