Sometimes hard to watch but an important piece of cinematic achievement. Fascinating.

Gillo Pontecorvo's masterpiece is an Oscar nominated film from Italy in 1966 which is stunningly relevant to the horrors that are still occurring in 2016 as far as terrorism in the Middle East and elsewhere. It's as if Pontecorvo had a crystal ball and was producing and directing a nightmare that still haunts many nations. (Just reflect on the U. S. A)

This is a deeply moving and emotional film that depicts a people's fight for freedom. Shot in black and white in the 1960s, it features an excellent soundtrack. An absolute must-see.

I saw it on tv last night. Very close to what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As relevant today as when it first premiered... offers a study in the evolution of "terrorism" and the difficulty an occupying power faces in trying to extricate itself from an unwelcoming situation that has not been paralled since.
