John (Joaquin Phoenix) is going through a divorce with his wife, the renowned figure skater Elena (Claire Danes). Amidst the separation, John discovers that Elena's family has secretly cloned her. Their intention is to maintain her skating success and profits even after she retires. To achieve this, they plan to eliminate the original Elena.
