The "Game of Thrones" prequel set 200 years before the original series, tells the story of a battle over who should succeed the ailing King Viserys Targaryen. King Viserys worsening health and lack of a male heir bring the future of House Targaryen into question. After naming his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra as his heir, the King's new wife gives birth to male heirs to bring the succession question to the surface. The events of "House of the Dragon" lead up to the Targaryen Civil War of Succession, known as the Dance of the Dragons.
