A rather strange romantic comedy in that too many characters and elements formulate a plot that becomes more complicated than it should. This is a 1939 release so there is nothing inappropriate or seamy about this potential romance except, as mentioned, it gets too involved with other matters.

Fred MacMurray (Bill) from Bali happens to be in New York and falls for Madeleine Carroll (Gail) a bona fide, independent lady, a major executive for a department store who relishes her freedom and hardly the type to be tied down to a life in a kitchen as some man's wife. There are so many ups and downs in the story that one never knows what exactly the result will be. You will have to see the film to discover what eventually does transpire. It's quite a light, pleasant enough romantic comedy so we know things will never be that bad.

For a movie with the name BALI in the title, we hardly are in the island at all, but being in Bali is not the important matter in this romantic comedy. Fred is wonderful as Bill and Madeleine is not far behind as Gail The only problem I have with the film is that I wish it wasn't so convoluted with the many incidents and all too many characters, as already stated before.
