Info
Lieutenant Carl Anderson, a Marine platoon leader, loses all but seven of his men in the battle of Guadalcanal. Through flashbacks, we learn that Anderson, in peacetime, was a chemistry teacher. One of his men, Corporal Stuart Conroy, was his student. Anderson is determined to keep all his men alive when the platoon is sent on a harrowing and desperately important mission. In twenty-four hours the Japanese will launch a rocket defense that will cripple the local Allied military forces. Anderson's rough-and-tumble crew must locate and take out the rocket command or die trying. In one haunting and spectacular location after the other -- jungle foxholes, abandoned buildings, caves, and tropical island beachheads -- the men fight alongside of and learn from one another.
