A worthy sequel to the excellent original that offers a grimly compelling exploration of the darker aspects of human nature. Director Brett Sullivan relates the absorbing story at a continual pace, ably crafts a potent gloom-doom twisted fairytale atmosphere, and makes nice use of the bleak rundown rehab center main setting. Emily Perkins gives a fine and appealing performance as a troubled young lady who's not just trying to beat a werewolf curse, but also is the unwilling recipient of a predatory male werewolf's lustful desires. Tatiana Maslany likewise impresses as a weird little girl who befriends Perkins and decides to help her out. Katherine Isabelle makes a few welcome appearances as the pesky ghost of Perkins's deceased sister. The werewolf attack scenes are quite bloody and ferocious while the uncompromisingly downbeat ending packs a jolting punch. An on the money frightfest.

“Ginger Snaps II” a.k.a. “Ginger Snaps: Unleashed” is a worthy sequel. We’re not merely talking about a new location and a couple of new characters either. This is a true sequel, the next step in a series with interesting twists on themes introduced previously and a completely different story.

After the events of the first film, Brigitte Fitzgerald (Emily Perkins) is on the run and using wolfsbane to prevent the transformation brought on by the werewolf curse. When her injections are confused for narcotics, she is sent to a rehabilitation clinic. Befriending a young girl named Ghost (Tatiana Maslany), Brigitte searches for a way to escape the facility before the werewolf on her trail catches up.

Katharine Isabelle returns as Ginger but she hasn’t been magically cured or brought back to life. She only appears in hallucinations and offers her sister only sardonic comments. This follow-up doesn't want to look backward, it wants to keep going forward. That first movie talked through metaphors about the alienation siblings can feel when one suddenly hits puberty. This time, we're talking about drug use and rehab. Brigitte is stuck in a secure location where she’s forced to deal with a creep that will smuggle her cure to her (Tyler, played by Eric Johnson). It’s a new kind of nightmare as she desperately tries to explain to everyone that she needs the syringes of purple liquid and that something dangerous is outside waiting to get her, but none of them believe her. Can you blame them when she cuts herself, was found overdosed in a snowbank, and goes on around impossible monsters?

With Ginger and Brigitte's dynamic gone, we’re given new characters to follow. Ghost is a lot of fun because she’s the one who believes our heroine and can circumvent all of security and staff. In terms of villainous characters, a werewolf that spends its time eating people isn’t much of a character, so we’re given a truly reprehensible foe in the form of Tyler. The rehab center and the staff also serve as unwilling villains in the story, as do the unwilling changes to Brigitte’s body.

Director Brett Sullivan and writer Megan Martin offer us something different but also retain what we liked from before. There's still plenty of humor to balance out the horror. The female-centered story offers well-developed characters with plenty of shades of grey to make them feel real - even the bad ones.

As a bonus, “Unleashed” features better special effects than the first and stands on its own remarkably well. You’d probably need someone to give you a brief synopsis of the first movie to get all the details, but for the most part, this picture is fairly self-contained.

I love a good werewolf movie but there aren't many of them because of their prohibitive need for intensive special effects and an overall lack of imagination in terms of their stories. This makes “Ginger Snaps 2” a standout. Through clever storytelling, strong characters, and a great ending it even manages to work its way around the “money shot” of any lycanthrope story."Ginger Snaps" is being more recognized as time goes on and the sequel deserves the same kind of attention. I though this sequel was just as good as the first. Very good acting, and a creepy story. Some of the characters were amazing. Good for Canada!

Hey there, how's it going? I'm doing fantastic. I absolutely adore all three "Ginger Snaps" films, but the second one is definitely my top pick - it's the best! Drop me a line sometime, bye -xxx-

It's very good, though not quite as good as the other two movies. Eric looks a lot like his brother. I really enjoy the scenes where Ginger talks to Brigitte. The ending is awesome, just like in the other films, but this particular ending is my absolute favorite!

While not as strong as the other films in the trilogy, this is by no means a flaw! It's still a very solid movie with some effectively horrifying and gory scenes. In short, all three films are good werewolf-themed horror flicks that are definitely worth watching, especially when compared to something like Cursed!!! The movie boasts a great atmosphere, some delightfully twisted moments, plenty of blood and gore, and high-quality production values. It's a well-made horror film, a rarity in recent years!!

This movie covers girl issues, youth depression (to some extent), and many other engrossing elements that will keep you captivated from start to finish.

I'm a huge fan of werewolves and strange stuff like that, so I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. In fact, it even scared me, which is another reason why I'm giving it a perfect score of 10. I did prefer the first installment, "Entre soeur," as it featured Ginger more prominently. That said, I can't wait to check out "Entre soeur 3"!

I enjoyed it because it's the sequel. If they hadn't made a sequel, we would never have found out what happened to Brigitte...

I just want to say that this movie is a must-see, especially for the plot twist at the end when you find out more about the little girl. I think making the good guys bad and the bad guys good just to throw everyone off is a brilliant move... but in any case, it's up to you to watch it and form your own opinion.

I prefer the first movie, which was a lot funnier and bolder. This sequel is much darker, but the action moves at a good pace with some nice plot twists. The lead actress does a great job portraying the tormented girl, making us really feel for her. I wasn't as keen on the idea of doing a sequel, as it didn't feel necessary. That said, it's far from the worst sequel I've ever seen. There's less of the irony that made the original so enjoyable, but overall it works quite well. While not exceptional, it offers some chills and a fairly cool ending.

Strong cast, but the ending is ridiculous. The story is intriguing, but the escape plot feels underdeveloped. Overall, it's a letdown, especially considering how great the first movie was - a fantastic, sarcastic horror-comedy.

    brunodufort@  29.4.2004 age: 18-25 4 reviews

This sequel is a definite improvement over the first movie. The original's werewolf premise was rather silly. The second installment takes a more effective approach. I'd suggest this for fans of "scared to death" style horror flicks who aren't afraid of facing clichés head-on. That said, "Dawn of the Dead" is far superior to this film. It's not terrible by any means, but there's certainly room for improvement!

Fantastic! A fitting sequel and conclusion to the tale of the Fitzgerald sisters! You definitely need to watch the first movie before seeing this second installment.

This movie is a real letdown. It's awful, especially considering how great the first one was. The third installment seems a bit better, but they really shouldn't have made a sequel or a prequel in the first place.

    zazounet2000@  18.4.2004 age: 13-17 9 reviews

A real surprise, this one. I liked the original but I loved the sequel. Emily Perkins is a terrific, terrific actress. She NEEDS to do more work. She has to be seen and appreciated more. This is more of a straight-up horror film than the first, but still has plenty of biting black humor. It's amazing how utterly nasty and unlikeable the problem girls are made out to be by the filmmakers. It seems like they were being completely ridiculed ;I'm not sure what the attention was but it's brave and un-PC. The pacing was a bit too fast at times I found but it's a minor complaint. Features the best opening credits sequence since Seven. When I first heard they were maing a sequel and a prequel I thought that was pretty ridiculous, now I can't wait for the next one. Makes me proud to be canadian for once.

I'm glad we showed up early for this movie, IT WAS PACKED! 7 or 8 people showed up during the previews alone! Move over Godfather this sequal is taken the thrown. It was scary, witty and left me wanting even more... Oscar's best picture? Who knows what the future holds. It makes you want to say "I liked it! " So one and all see the greatest thing to come out of Canada since Brian Adams!

Gingersnaps II is very different from the 1st. Brigit is much stronger than Ginger was. I didn't care much for the ending but it wasn't bad either. I think it was less gory but still scary but I think the 1st one was scarier. But it was good none the less.

First of all, if your going to see this movie make sure you rent the first one. Watching the previews in the theater, I thought it was going to be a pretty scary movie. There were a couple scenes that made you jump a bit but nothing to spectacular. Almost worth waiting until it hits the cheap theaters.

This is one of the coolest sequels I have ever seen. It's darker and scarier then the original and it has some great laughs. Plus we have some cameos of Katharine Isabelle. It is really different from the first one. There is a surprise at the ending and with and ending like that I hope they make another sequel after Ginger Snaps Back. Well I really think every horror fan should see this movie because it deserves a look after the hard work of the crew and the actors were great.

Saw this with the Mike bullard team: Emily Perkins is amazing in this picture, although the presence of her sister on the side kinda slows the process of fear, the story holds pretty well.
