Marie, Odile, and Valérie, three journeys of women and mothers unfold over more than a century. Marie, born in 1902, had 10 children in rural and Catholic France. Her daughter, Odile, did not want children; she aimed to free herself from domestic constraints. In the 1950s, she became a civil servant and embraced city life. Settled in Ariège, Valérie, the third generation, feels trapped by her life as a mother. She invokes the past and questions her loved ones about these roles still largely assigned to women. With the historian Michelle Perrot, they explore a century of emancipation within the family sphere.
