Info
Elis & Tom is considered one of the most important albums in the history of Brazilian music. The recording took place in Los Angeles, in early 1974, and it was all captured by the team of filmmakers led by director Roberto de Oliveira, who arranged for the duo to meet. The original footage was kept for 45 years until they were restored and remastered in 2018. These rare and unpublished images drive this musical documentary. Dramas and tensions surrounded the recording of the album, to the point that the project was almost interrupted. In the end, the power of the music took over and lead Elis Regina, Tom Jobim and a group of talented young musicians to a masterpiece. The viewer is taken on a journey through time, participating in moments of conflict as well as pure joy, that reveal intimate moments of the creative process, and the extraordinary personalities of these artists. The film is also an exciting reunion of the director with the artists and the material he filmed nearly five decades ago. Roberto is both director and character.
