In 1955 Chile, a popular writer named María Carolina Geel becomes the center of attention when she kills her lover. This intriguing case captures the interest of Mercedes, a reserved secretary working for the judge handling the trial. When Mercedes visits María's apartment, she starts to reflect on her own life, identity, and the societal expectations placed on women. In the writer's home, Mercedes discovers a sense of freedom she has never experienced before.
