Where does film go when it dies? Film heaven? Film hell? 'Cine-alchemist' Bill Morrison's film Decasia argues that 'dead' film has the chance to be resurrected and reanimated. Constructed entirely from found decaying nitrate film, Decasia is a meditation on the fragility of the film form and its metaphysical relationship with time. Dynamic melting frames present disfigured faces and unrecognizable landscapes, all set to Michael Gordon's hypnotic symphony. The film is a uniquely fascinating one which celebrates the physical form of film and underlines the beauty in its natural chemical degradation.
