Bruno Sammartino depicts the exciting story of the championship wrestler and his family's narrow escape from the Nazis in World War II Italy. The film captures the strength of a mother's love and courage coupled with a devoted son's aspiration to grow up and achieve greatness as a tribute to the woman who saved his life.
Sammartino's life was the quintessential immigrant story. He was the idol of such greats as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stan Hanson, John Cena and the Miz. His character was forged by his mother's determination not to let any of her children perish at the hands of the SS.
Sammartino held the world championship of wrestling for over seven years; sold out Madison Square Garden more often than any other attraction; and because of his athleticism and dedication to family values developed a huge fan base. Dubbed "The Italian Strongman" and "The Strongest Man in the World" early in his career, Sammartino later earned the title "The Living Legend." He is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2013.
