Florentine Lacasse works at the lunch counter of a five and dime store. The meagre wages she brings home to her parents help keep the large family alive. Jean Lévesque seduces Florentine but she's too poor for his burning ambition and he tries to foist her off on his friend Emmanuel. A tumultuous love triangle set against the backdrop of the life of the Lacasse family.
