This film retells the the greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in a modern day Rio Canrival in Brazil. Orfeo, a street car driver meets a beautiful yet naïve runaway, Eurydice, who has come to the city to flee a jealous suitor who now wants her dead. Her refuge belongs to Orfeo's cousin and the two meet again at the carnival. When Eurydice dances with Orfeo, his fiancee is enraged, but Eurydice's stalker appears forcing Orfeo to help her attempt to escape.
