Info
Late 1930s in the Podhale region of Poland. Jędrek Zawrat, a talented mountaineer and descendant of a prominent highlander family, thrives on living life on the edge. When climbing, he chooses the most challenging routes; when in love, he's willing to sacrifice everything. His beloved is the beautiful Bronka. However, due to a family decision, Bronka's hand is given to Jędrek's older brother, the steady and serious Maciek. Proud and heartbroken, Jędrek leaves his homeland, seeking solace among Krakow's bohemian circles. There, he encounters a German scientist and mountaineer, Wolfram, who promotes a theory that the Highlanders descend from the ancient Germanic tribe of the Pragoths. When war breaks out, the Germans offer the Podhale region cooperation. Supported by many prominent families, Maciej Zawrat firmly rejects this offer. Yet, persuaded by Wolfram, Jędrek, hoping to win back his love and save his community from the devastation of war, decides to collaborate. Caught up in history, Jędrek and Maciej, who love the same woman, are forced to make the hardest choices. They find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict that will determine not only their personal fates but the future of the entire region.
