Bert Rigby, an English coal miner who sees life as one big musical number, emerging from the mineshaft at the end of the day singing the Fred Astaire classic 'The Continental,' wearing his helmet as a top hat and carrying his pick like a cane. It all started when Rigby's mother took him to the local cinema. Now he dreams of stardom--a dream for which he crosses the Atlantic. But once in Hollywood, Rigby discovers that the movies have changed since the days of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and no one wants to cast a man with Rigby's song-and-dance talents.
