When his mother dies, Ali feels a deep sense of nostalgia that increasingly cuts him off from family life. His wife Gabrielle is aware of his distress but can do nothing to help him. From one day to the next, Ali leaves Montreal without his family in the hope of returning to his roots in Arwad, a small island off the cost of Syria. His mistress Marie goes with him and discovers the island for the first time. Following an unexpected turn of events, an encounter between Gabrielle and Marie becomes inevitable.
