When Harry Patterson (Clark Gable) meets librarian Emily Sears (Greer Garson) the two complete opposites fall in love and marry. Yet Patterson's yearning for adventure threatens to tear the couple apart as Harry's wanderlust competes with his love for Emily. And Emily's best friend, Helen (Joan Blondell), never shies from telling Emily what she really thinks about Harry. But the birth of their first child finally ends Harry's need for Adventure.
