Michel Paquette, 12 years old and suffering from polio, skips Sunday mass to read poetry at St-Amour & Daughter Press. His old companion, Archange St-Amour, who is afflicted with Parkinson's, needs Michel to help him typeset Vive le Québec Laïque, an anti-clerical pamphlet in the era of Quebec's "Great Darkness." The pamphlet scandalizes the clergy. However, the Church's revenge is nothing compared to the simmering anger within Michel and his friends. The young rebels raise hell, defying the clerical order and risking everything in their quest for a secular and equal Quebec.
