A Sentimental Capitalism is a tragicomedy that draws a parallel between capitalism, on one hand, and love and art, on the other. Presented as a romantic biography, the film tells the story of how Fernande Bouvier, an ordinary woman from the countryside, learns how to live at the turn of the 20th century. Fernande dreams of love and art but soon loses all her illusions when a stupid bet takes her from her Bohemian life and leaves her in the world of entertainment and high finance. One moment, she's living in her room in Paris, the next she's at the heart of the New York Stock Exchange, all in October 1929. As the saying goes: The rest is history.
