A Guy Named Joe

WWII fighter pilot Spencer Tracy dies in combat, only to discover that the afterlife looks a lot like the Air Force. He reunites with deceased pilot pals like Barry Nelson and reports to five-star general Lionel Barrymore, the CO of the heavenly unit. Dispatched back to Earth in spirit form, Tracy acts as guardian angel to young pilot-in-training Van Johnson. But when Tracy's old flame Irene Dunne appears on the scene, herself a top pilot to whom Johnson is instantly attracted, Tracy realizes in death just how much he left unresolved in life.
