    Un équipage civil d'une plateforme pétrolière est recruté pour mener une opération de recherche et de sauvetage lorsqu'un sous-marin nucléaire coule mystérieusement. Un plongeur (Ed Harris) se retrouve bientôt dans une odyssée spectaculaire à 25 000 pieds sous la surface de l'océan, où il affronte une force mystérieuse ayant le pouvoir de changer le monde ou de le détruire.
