Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan), né aux Etats-Unis, accompagne sa gand-mère souffrante (Waheeda Rehman) en Inde. Il ne se doute pas que ce voyage, a priori anodin, va en fait être le plus long voyage de sa vie. Avec la fascinante Old Delhi en toile de fond: la vieille ville est un personnage à part entière.
