Un livreur maladroit, "Mad Max" Grabelski (Daniel Stern), est accusé de meurtre lorsque son plan farfelu pour devenir riche tourne mal. Il se dirige vers les collines avec la police à ses trousses. Mais une fois là-bas, il est pris pour un chef scout mondialement connu et se retrouve soudainement à superviser six scouts Rangers lors de leur première expédition nocturne.
